Secondary Schools Info Sheet
Aim:
To raise awareness of the benefits of a computing career to secondary school children in order to attempt to address the future skills needs for IT practitionersCompetition
A digital multi-media competition for secondary school children with a theme of:
the benefits of working with computers. or how computers
can help the environment
There are two competitions
- A poster, created with the use of a computer (A4 size, portrait or landscape)
- A DVD clip (1 minute maximum)
The entries must be through the secondary school or college
Each could be by a single pupil, a team from a particular year or by a whole
year at the secondary school or college. The material submitted should be
the original work of the pupils.
Note: Hampshire Education policy is not to publish images of children where the child could be identified. Therefore it may not be possible to publish certain images on the internet or other public media.
Judging Criteria
- Originality of ideas (linked to the theme)
- Creative use of the media
The effectiveness of the output
Entry
The secondary school or college will need to provide school name, address, telephone number, web address and two contacts (with email and telephone).
Entry will be by submitting your school details using the + Add your School link in the menu of this site.
School Stage (to July 2008)
The school or college can submit one entry for each of the two competitions (poster and DVD clip) for each of the three age groups.
Entries to be submitted by mid July 2008; intention to enter by the end of May 2008, so that the school or college could be entered on to the website, and further information sent to schools. School name and web address to be put on the web site on entering the BCS Hampshire Final ( Autumn 2008)
Regulations
Entries are not normally returned and there is no guarantee that there would not be any damage to an entry
Entries could be used by the BCS for publicity of computing careers etc.
Age groups would be years 7,8 & 9; years 10 &11; years 12 and above.
All should be full-time pupils at that school or college for the academic
year 2007/8 For each submission, the number in team, the minimum, maximum
and average age (as of 01/01/08) should be stated.
The school or college is restricted to three entries per competition, one for each age group, and must ensure no inappropriate material is included.
The Website
A website will be created to hold digital photographs of all the successful entries with links to the appropriate schools or college.
Prizes and Certificates
There will be up to £3000 in prizes as well as £25 per winning pupil or team.

In addition, the school or college will be provided with three types of PDF certificates for each winning pupil (to be passed through to the constituency round), Highly Commended and Commended.
The Head Teacher would also be able to sign the certificates and add the appropriate names.
